I’m feeling very lethargic today, I can’t be bothered with routine tasks much less sort through the emails that overflowing my inbox. Seems a good time to try writing something daily even if I don’t what I’ll write about. My essays at university were frequently voyages of discovery, a topic would be set for me but I had to start writing without knowing where my thoughts might lead me until I got there. I think the hardest parts of any creative work is getting started and deciding when you’ve done enough; the body of your work is relatively easy once started, it might require revision but overworking it can ruin all your efforts.
I hope to follow the advice of two great artists.
Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.
Pablo Picasso
If I sat around waiting for inspiration I’ld never write anything.
People of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and made things happen.
Leonardo da Vinci
But equally important:
Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer.
Leonardo da Vinci
I like the second one best, but I rarely follow this, I can be a bit gung ho and emotional in my thinking. disciplined is not a word I would use for my thought process! x
