The title of this blog is inspired by a response to a satirical article about the arrest of a comrade Audrey White @RedRosa91940184. It suggested Geriatric Liberation Front which amused me at first but is actually quite offensive. It gave me an idea when combined with a meme I did several years ago, when we still had a Labour Party. The one above is new but conveys the same message as the older one.
I’m sick and tired of being told that statistically older people are most likely to vote Tory, this is patently untrue when you consider us as individuals instead of statistics. Most of my comrades are either retired, disabled, or both and voted Labour all their lives until Cur Starmer turned it into another Tory party.
We older folk need to make our voices heard – I’m actually 2 years older than Audrey and 5 months older than Jeremy Corbyn, I wish I had half their energy!
Unlike Audrey I have been in prison, for one month on remand when I was a young man, I couldn’t survive having a terrorist charge hanging over my head for 15 months before the case even comes to trial. I’m relatively safe as lack of mobility makes it impossible for me to attend a protest without assistance. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to risk it and quite understand the terror Audrey felt.
It’s quite easy for police to stop terrorism, they just have to stop participating in it! This is just the latest in a series of outrageous attacks on pro-Palestine activists, witness the brutality inflicted on Sarah Wilkinson! It seems they’re going for the low hanging fruit, pick off the most vulnerable and the rest will fall in line. You know what? It’s fucking working!
I saw a report recently when Zionists were attacking a pro-Palestine activists and a police officer refused to intervene saying it was ‘free speech’. If this is true, and I’m not asserting that it is, then it’s truly abominable!
The police aren’t always the bad guys. Far right thugs are moaning about being prevented from carrying out a vigilante attack on a migrant hotel in Epping.
It’s not pensioners carrying out these attacks, although I’ld be proud to stand in the front line against them if I had the logistical support ✊
While I’ve been writing this I acquired a new follower based in Sheffield, the South Yorkshire Migrant and Asylum Action group @symaag.bsky.social who have put me in touch with a Leeds based organisation @retasleeds.bsky.social who may be enable me to take some positive action instead of sitting on my bum suffering RSI from constant use of the IPad
If you’re septuagenarian socialist and want to stand with me, vicariously if not literally, just add a comment below and say “I’m in”
Thank you Mike, you put this old woman’s feelings into words. At 77 I haven’t lost my marbles either and have always voted Labour until it left socialism behind. This government seems to be determined to pick on the vulnerable, what a fetid mess they are. Because I am old it doesn’t mean I don’t have the right to protest against vile barbarity. P.S. I hear the US have landed nuclear weapons on our shores, we will be protesting, if not in body, then in spirit! Solidarity.
