Gaza and Israel: Out of touch politicians and media.

The mass the demonstrations take place around the world this week show the extent to which the majority of politicians and mainstream media are out of touch with the general population, I’ve been blocked by Andrew Neil because I called him a moron for calling last weekend’s demonstrations as pro-Hamas instead of anti-genocide. My response got a lot of likes and RTs, also a couple of trolls just for balance, but not as many as Chris Williamson and Jackie Walker who are more infamous than I am!

I challenged the Israeli Defence Force about a rocket attack on a hospital and was immediately bombarded with responses. I pointed out that two Israeli sources contradicted each other. Here is the official account:

And here is another Israeli source that contradicts it.

IDF investigation confirms hospital blown up by meteorite, by @LKTranslator https://open.substack.com/pub/normalislandnews/p/idf-investigation-confirms-hospital?r=jitam&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&comments=true

Journalist Jonathan Cook has said that such an explosion could not have been caused by the rockets Hamas and Islamic Jihad possess, they’re not strong enough. Even if explosives were stored in the hospital it would’ve caused multiple smaller explosion, not one huge one, and we have evidence that Israel was ordering evacuation three days before it happened. Why would they do that if they didn’t intend to bomb it?

I’m a fool for not accepting the feedback, both positive and negative, and leaving it at. I have the right to remain silent but I’m also incapable of doing so. My work is based on the premise that if I don’t speak up against an injustice then I’m complicit. I resigned from the Labour Party and Unite Community for that reason, I refused to be complicit in a witch-hunt.

I will go further. Nobody with an ounce of humanity can remain a member of the Starmer’s Labour Party after his outrageous statements, parroted by his front bench sycophants, that Israel is justified in cutting off essential supplies if it’s done in accordance with international law, which it clearly is not!

Nobody can predict the outcome of the next general election but I’ll try. I think Greens will pick up seats in Merseyside. If Jeremy Corbyn, Diane Abbott and Claudia Webbe choose to stand as independents in their constituencies, after being denied the right to stand as Labour candidates they’ll probably win.

I think the likely outcome is Sunak losing the election and Starmer becoming Prime Minister by default, providing he can scrape together enough support to form a government. But Sunak will be doing the same and if they’re both looking right, as they are presently, it’s stalemate!

We don’t need to vote Labour to replace one Tory government with another, nor should we vote strategically to get the least worst option. We should vote for the best socialist candidate in our constituency, if enough of us do that we can take away power from politicians and return it to where it rightfully belongs – we the people ✊

There are a handful of politicians speaking out against Israeli aggression, no surprise that Jeremy Corbyn is one of them, but the number is growing. 64 MPs have so far signed a parliamentary motion calling for a ceasefire in #Gaza and the immediate delivery of aid, condemning both Hamas massacres and Israel’s collective punishment of Palestinians. Most of the Socialist Campaign Group appear to put their careers ahead of any principles they had, but Apsama Begum didn’t need to express solidarity for Palestine to be subjected to racist abuse – she only had to be photographed standing next to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign stall at the Labour Party conference. Irish politicians are perhaps the most vocal, and Ireland is one of only two European nations supporting Palestine (the other being Sweden).

President Biden tweeted “As hard as it is, we cannot give up on peace”, but the USA already did that when they vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid to be sent to Gaza. U.K. and Russia abstained but there votes would have made any difference since any permanent member can veto a resolution and the chances of USA and Russia agreeing on anything are infinitesimal. Here’s the tweet. My response is another that’s getting lots of likes and RTs from people who don’t follow me.

There are plenty signs of a pushback on social media, most surprising is a video message Joe Biden purportedly received from his wife! “End this f***ing nightmare!” I don’t know if it’s genuine but worth sharing.

The Communist Party of Israel blames Netanyahu, as do Israel’s principle newspaper, Haaretz, and human rights group B’Tselem. USA Muslims and Jews are united in opposition to genocide

Some humanitarian aid is starting to be sent but is quite inadequate and contingent on none of it going to Hamas, which cannot be guaranteed any more than a bomb aimed at Hamas can be instructed not to hurt civilians. It also requires that hostages be released before a corridor will be opened to enable them to be released. It’s been reported that Hamas did offer to release two hostages but Israel refused to receive them. We’re constantly being told we must condemn Hamas but we’re not allowed to criticise Israel, that’s ‘antisemitic’ despite the fact that American Jews and Muslims are uniting to demonstrate in Washington DC in support of Palestine. Not Bernie Sanders who repeats the mantra “Israel has the right to defend itself”, an excuse that’s wearing thin!

The peace summit that has started in Cairo offers some hope but, given some of the parties supporting Hamas, there’s also a risk of the conflict spreading across the Middle East.

This has been a somewhat rambling blog because I’ve been continually updating it as I receive fresh information, I find it difficult to assimilate it all, but the time has come for me say “Enough!” and publish what I’ve written.

  1. Thank you, Mike, I feel the Middle East is going to explode and that is what the the US and the UK have been waiting for, any excuse to attack Iran. Syria and Lebanon are already under attack by Israel. After all, why has the US sent two aircraft carriers to Israel. It is not to defend Israel from Hamas in Gaza.

  2. All this is no excuse for the Israelis to commit genocide of the Palestinians. The Arab world will not forgive or forget and I hope many in the West who want peace in the world feel the same.

      1. In addition to threat we’re already under from escalation of the Russia/Ukraine war! USA want to base nuclear bombs here, so we’ll be on the front line while they stay at a safe distance 😠

  3. It’s bad enough that we have the submarine base up here and that they are decommissioned in Rosyth, just down the road from me. We have 7 old nuclear ones to date! We don’t want them and have never wanted them.
