It’s seems ironic that the UK General Election should be called for 4th July and we have chance to regain our sovereignty and reject US hegemony. Our next government will be as sycophantic as the last but we have a chance to reject the duopoly
The General Election was going to be a game changer for me, it meant reviewing petitions I’ve been promoting which are now void. I also want to start a couple of petitions of my own, no point in doing so until we have a new government.
My hand has been forced before I was ready. After 4-5 weeks of slow broadband I had full fibre broadband installed – only to have my Twitter account hacked a week later! I immediately posted a blog to everyone on my #SocialistSunday lists to inform you what was happening although I didn’t understand it myself.
I had a few frustrating days, in which Twitter Support closed my account twice because they couldn’t verify that my that @mikecoulson48 was the account associated with my email address. I was finally able to regain access when I pointed out that that they had sent both of these emails to the address I used to open my account 10 years ago and @ExecutiveXBadge was suspended. In other words they accepted that I did not change my password!

It was only after I regained access that I realised that many of my followers received this message purporting to come from me, including several Labour MPs with whom I’ve had no direct contact for several. I’ve contacted some of them to explain it wasn’t me, it was impossible to contact everyone but I don’t think I’ve lost many followers barring a few who unfollowed me as a precaution and have refollowed me since. In fact part of my problem regaining access was that I used one account to block the other in case both were compromised.

Many of those who received this message are Labour MPs with whom I have had do direct contact for several years. I have a Twitter list which I compiled when I was lobbying for support for a petition I started several years ago, one of those I mentioned above which I intend to start again. I won’t be putting so much futile effort into it although some did sign, RT and follow me. I don’t really care about them and can’t be bothered to explain. I think I’ll retain my list just to remind me who they are but otherwise ignore them. I’m pretty sure they’re ignoring me which suits me fine. I doubt whether they’ll read this blog but I can’t be bothered to contact them individually.
It will take me some time to get back to normal, not least because I’ve had to wait for Twitter X to review my account before restoring my blue tick. Until that was done I was unable change my name back from Executive X to Mani Isna La or restore my profile image. I’m using the image in this blog rather than the one I had before, I’ld need to recreate that one from scratch.
When I do get back to normal it will be a different normal! I managed to regain access to my bookmarks but not my saved drafts. I’ve managed to resurrect some of them but it’s a laborious process. What it means in practice is that instead of deciding which recurring tweets to drop but which to keep 😊
Thanks to everyone who has supported me in this situation, I’m inviting everyone who follows @mikecoulson48 to follow @MikeSherburn48. I’ve locked that account again so I’ll need to approve each new follower but that won’t be a problem for known comrades. It’s difficult managing two accounts when I can’t get any relief from party political bullshit on behalf of both major parties – I’m having enough trouble keeping up what independents, Greens and WPUK have to say. I don’t intend to @MikeSherburn48 need to reclaim the account as a refuge from the hassle of politics.
I’ld also like to reiterate my invitation to subscribe to this blog. It costs nothing but ensures that whatever happens you’ll be notified whenever I post a new blog.
What a nightmare Mike, glad to see you have managed to keep your cool!
