I’m not talking about the insanity of Israeli and Ukrainian governments, supported by US Imperialism, escalating the war in the Middle East. Better writers than me have plenty to say about that. What I’m more concerned about is the insanity prevailing on on Twitter/X, especially among politicians. I’ve been considering muting David Lammy, Keir Starmer and others MPs because I’m tired of their inane and repetitive statements and sickened by the replies I get supporting the genocide, I’ll have muted a few by the time you read this blog!

I haven’t done the analytics but I’ld estimate that I get more likes to my replies than Lammy does to his post. I’m not the only one by any means, I’ve yet to see a positive reply to one of his tweets, but Lammy is blind and indifferent. He could fly to Israel in a hot air balloon and provide his own fuel! I’ve just realised that we were following each other but I used to follow a lot of Labour MPs back when I was a member. No longer, I’ve just unfollowed and muted the blithering idiot 😠

The latest example of Tory stupidity is Robert Jenrick proposing that the Star of Israel should be displayed at every port in the UK to show Israeli’s are welcome – but refugees displaced by US, UK and Israeli aggression are not! He doubles down by saying any UK citizen who refuses to swear allegiance to Israel should be deported, although he doesn’t say where we should be deported to. Swearing allegiance to a foreign power was treasonable offence, punishable by death until 1998.

This was the year I returned from Australia, having renounced my British citizenship 10 years earlier. This is a requirement in Australian Law but has no effect in British law, we’re not allowed to renounce our citizenship although several politicians would like to deprive people born in this country of their rights as citizens.

I’m tired of hearing politicians parroting the same tropes, but I’m even more annoyed with Elon Musk who wants to not only restrict our freedom of speech but to deny us the right to refuse to listen! We’re apparently denied the right to block or mute accounts that are abusive. I don’t know if this is true or if he’s flying a kite, as he did with his idea of limiting the number of tweets we could read, but it amounts to him deciding what is hate speech!

I don’t ask to see Labour MPs sharing the memorandum they received from HQ, that’s not what social media is for! My timeline is flooded with this repetitive rubbish from people who can barely put two sentences together, but I’m also limited by which notifications I see. This can be good thing, offensive tweets are hidden from me until someone else responds, but it means I don’t always get notified of a new follower. I don’t follow back every new follower, but I’ld like to decide that for myself rather than have some algorithm decide for me!

I’m not surprised that some people are thinking of quitting Twitter/X, I’ld do so myself if I could find a viable alternative but I have too many followers to abandon them and start again. One person who has contemplated quitting the platform is Dr Julia Paterson, founder of EveryDoctor, I’m pleased she didn’t although I wouldn’t have blamed her if she had. I won’t repeat vile abuse she’s received, but I can testify to how vile it is by having received some of it my myself 😠 I’ve just seen Janey Godley is being trolled as she’s going into a hospice for end of life care. For fuck sake, let her spend her final days in peace 😠

I can understand why many people are giving up on Twitter but Musk doesn’t care! X is just his expensive plaything, he doesn’t care about the revenue it brings as he’s can’t find a useful way of spending what he has! Musk has declared himself to favour colonialism (he wants to colonise Mars!) So “From the river to the see, Palestine will be free!” Is anathema to him. Musk is a “free speech absolutist”, but anything he dislikes is “hate speech” and will get you blocked. If it’s true that he intends to remove the mute an block options, it will mean that anyone can be as offensive as they like as long as they don’t offend Elon. Well I’ve already blocked him, and if he doesn’t like it he knows what he can do 😠 I quit the Labour Party on disgust at what it had become, I quit Unite Community for because I didn’t like the direction it was taking, but I’ve quit quitting. For all its faults, Twitter/X gives me a voice and I’m going nowhere anytime soon!

A bit of a rant this week and a bit longer than usual, but I make no apologies. I’m finding that many of you are reading my blogs even if you don’t subscribe, and I find that encouraging. I used to be quite self- effacing and been told off for it, I think I’ve managed to overcome that fault without going to the other extreme and appearing boastful. People take me as they find me, those who don’t like what I have to say won’t read this far. My blogs are usually quite brief, I’m finding my own voice without the need to elaborate on what others have said. I find inspiration from others and try to express my thoughts to the best of my ability, but I can’t always find the words I need. That’s when an apt quotation is needed

Postscript: Since publishing this blog it’s been announced that Gary Lineker’s contract with the BBC won’t be renewed, those celebrating the break don’t believe he should have the temerity to express an opinion on anything but football. The same has been said of Chris Packham. It doesn’t matter that they’re not using their BBC platform to express their views, they’re not allowed to express them anywhere if they work for BBC! Someone on Twitter/X accused Lineker of “dragging the BBC into disrepute” as if they sufficiently disreputable enough already 😠
