There’s been very little of note recently.

The results of the Clacton by-election was as expected, there’s little to be said that hasn’t been said already – although Lozza Fox moaned about coming 5th in a two horse race.

The appointment of Andy Burnham as Prime Minister was also foretold, if he makes a significant break from the policies of his predecessor that will be news but there’s no indication of that happening anytime soon.

Burnham has so far failed to distinguish himself despite knowing, ever since winning the Makerfield by-election, that he was in line for the job with no serious opposition. He should have started making plans immediately but there’s no evidence he’s thought about it very much.

The genocide in Gaza is no longer news, it’s been going on for so long. This is the real tragedy, we can be lulled into forgetfulness while nothing changes.

Donald J Trump remains President of the United States despite the deterioration of his mental faculties, whatever is news today will be history tomorrow!

Technical Problems

I’ve been trying to figure out how to enable comrades to subscribe to my blog but I’ve been distracted by other technical issues. I was in conversation with a comrade who was keen to go ahead with a discussion group that we had previously proposed when we were on X but we need to find a way to do it. We don’t have each other’s email addresses and I can’t share mine privately because Bluesky requires age verification to access messaging – face scanning doesn’t work and my debit card is not acceptable, it has to be a credit card which I don’t have!

This will be of greater concern for me if the government introduce a blanket ban on internet access for under-16s, it will mean everyone will need to prove their age. A facial scan didn’t work and I have neither a driving licence or a credit card so, unless some other form of identification is proposed, I will be locked out! I live alone and am practically housebound, without internet access I would be unable to do my shopping online and would be even more isolated than I am – I might even have to continue paying for services that I no longer use if I’m unable to cancel them while I still have access.

This is all very worrying and I was further frustrated when I decided to watch a DVD, only to find that I couldn’t turn on the old analogue TV that I use. I could watch them on an old PC, but the hissing from the tower unit would be distracting so I’ve been looking at a replacement. Everything at Argos that might suit is out of stock, I can’t access Curries website, and I will only buy from Amazon as a last resort – I’m not even close to that point yet!

My options seems to be a new TV with built-in DVD player, but I’ld be paying for something I don’t want (I don’t think I qualify for a free TV licence now). The cheaper alternative would be a portable DVD player with screen, which is probably best as I would rarely use it if I had full access to the internet.

Someone on X just RTed something I posted back in 2019 when I was still supporting Labour against Reform. On a more positive note, I’ve had 2-3 likes of my earlier blog posts.
